Chris, Beth and I (Dickens) are grateful to God for an incredibly fruitful ministry season over this past Quarter. Through your prayers and generous support, we have been able to equip future leaders, strengthen pastors, run Students’ Conferences and bring the message of Christ-centered values to communities that are experiencing significant transformation.

Tanzania Ministry Update:

Equipping Leaders, Transforming Lives, and Reaching Communities.Equipping Pastors for Effective Ministry

This week we concluded training at Arusha Baptist Seminary, where 112 pastors participated in leadership and ministry development programs. It was encouraging to see these church leaders eagerly engaging with biblical principles and practical ministry tools that will strengthen their Churches and communities.

Please pray that these pastors will continue to faithfully serve and disciple others throughout Tanzania.

Influencing Future Leaders

One of the highlights of our Ministry visit to Tanzania was training 86 students at Makumira Lutheran University in Arusha through the VOICE Values Program.

The response was overwhelmingly positive. Students recognized the importance of values-based leadership and expressed a desire to become agents of transformation in their communities. Particularly encouraging was the participation of several Muslim students from Zanzibar who committed themselves to promoting values education within their own communities.

A powerful testimony came from a theology student, Pastor Frank Mbwambo. After hearing a personal testimony  from our own Chris Mugweri about forgiveness and reconciliation, he felt convicted to address a long-standing conflict with his sister. That very afternoon, after years of estrangement, he called her and began the process of reconciliation. We praise God for this tangible evidence of lives being transformed through the power of God’s truth.

Expanding the Reach Through University Students

We also had the privilege of training 64 students at the Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA).

These students were inspired to become ambassadors of values education and have already expressed plans to implement values programs in primary and secondary schools throughout Arusha. Scripture Union Tanzania will assist in identifying schools and facilitating partnerships that will enable these efforts to move forward.

We are excited about the multiplying effect of investing in young leaders who are eager to impact the next generation.

Encouragement from the Maasai Community

During our travels, we journeyed more than 200 kilometers north to visit Bishop Lukas Mollel, who serves among the Maasai people.
 Historically, many Maasai communities were considered among the least reached groups, known for their nomadic lifestyle and warrior traditions. Today, however, we are witnessing encouraging signs of transformation as education and the Gospel continue to make a lasting impact.

Bishop Mollel leads a growing congregation, but one of their greatest challenges is the lack of adequate church facilities. The increasing number of worshipers has created an urgent need for a larger church building.

Please join us in praying that God will provide the resources needed to construct a church that can accommodate this growing fellowship and serve as a center for ministry in the region.

Reaching Children with Hope

We were also privileged to visit Longidor Primary School, where we shared with pupils and encouraged them in their studies and personal development.

The challenges facing the school are significant. Many students learn under trees and sit on bare ground because the school lacks sufficient desks and classroom resources. Yet despite these limitations, the children demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm and a desire to learn.

Their resilience reminds us of the tremendous opportunities that exist to invest in the next generation through education and values-based programs.

Annual Easter Conferences among the Refugee Settlements.

We thank God for the successful completion of our Annual Easter Refugee Students’ Conferences. What began as a camp planned for 600 participants unexpectedly grew to nearly 1,000 young people from several refugee settlements. While this created significant challenges, especially in feeding and accommodation, we witnessed God’s faithfulness throughout the event.

We are especially grateful to all who responded generously to our appeal when food supplies ran critically low. Your timely support enabled us to continue the conference as planned and care for the many young people who attended. Thank you for standing with us at such a crucial moment.

The conference was marked by spiritual hunger, life-changing testimonies, and encouraging signs of growth among both the youth and church leaders. We praise God for the lasting impact that is already becoming evident.

In addition, part of the support received has enabled refugee ministry leaders to rent land for growing cassava and other crops. This initiative will help provide food resources for future conferences, including the planned gatherings in December, and is an important step toward greater sustainability.

Thank you for your prayers, generosity, and partnership in this ministry. Together, we are seeing lives transformed by the Gospel among refugee communities.

How You Can Pray
 1. Thank God for the successful training of pastors and university students throughout the Arusha region.
2. Pray for the 112 pastors trained at Arusha Baptist Seminary as they return to serve their congregations.
3. Pray for the students at Makumira Lutheran University and the Institute of Accountancy Arusha as they implement values-based initiatives in their communities and schools.
4. Pray for Pastor Frank Mbwambo and his family as reconciliation continues to take place.
5. Pray for Bishop Lukas Mollel and the growing church among the Maasai people, especially for provision for a larger Church building.
6. Pray for the pupils and staff of Longidor Primary School and for improved educational resources and facilities.
7. Pray that God will continue opening doors for evangelism, discipleship, and leadership development throughout Tanzania and East Africa.
8. Pray for Resource mobilization towards land for refugee livelihood initiatives and for provision of motorcycles to support refugee ministry leaders.
9. Pray for protection over our region against the Ebola Virus Disease, which remains severe in neighboring DR Congo, with only a few reported cases in Uganda. We thank God that the situation in Uganda is currently under control, despite some exaggerated international reports, and we continue to pray for wisdom, containment, and healing across affected areas..

Family Updates

By the grace of God, all our immediate family members are well. My wife, Norah, is in stable condition, and our five children are all doing well and actively engaged in school. Chris and Helen are also in good health, and their four children have likewise returned to school. Beth and her daughter Lisa, who is preparing for her wedding in December, are also doing well. We look forward to sharing family photos in our next newsletter.
